Part V

from Der Golem by John Battema

/

about

Originally Part 3 on the soundtrack album.

Oh, this was a fun one. I have an old Hammond-style drawbar organ module, and I discovered that if I plugged in a MIDI controller and held down the bottom two notes, by adjusting the drawbars I could create a variety of creepy rhythms and dissonant textures. I'd actually experimented with this previously, and when working on the Golem music it felt like a perfect fit for the whole "summoning the demon" passage.

There are additional textures...the one of most interest though is a bit of naughty audio, ha ha. Feeling a bit that the demon should have all sorts of horror/sin connotations, I went online and found a brief porn clip (in the process discovering exactly how NOT hard it was to find that sort of thing online). I extracted the audio of the moaning, mangled it with pitch shifters and whatnot, and layered it into the sound. Gooood times.
